What is Civil Engineering?

What could be it ? You are at the edge of your +2 level and looking for a career ahead as a engineer. You ask your seniors about all the engineering fields and their scope in Nepal. And all of them respond with same reply- go for civil engineering. According to them no other branches has scope as there is very limited companies to actually provide job opportunities. Hence you wonder, what possibly it could be. "What is civil engineering?".
Simply saying, it is that branch of engg which deals with all the basic infrastructure of a country- roads, water supply, buildings, etc. It is the civil engineer who shapes a town (ultimately country). Civil Works are of huge size and involves lot of money. Maybe that is the reason sometimes people are attracted to it. But it is a interesting field as it involves lot of field visit. It is not such type of job where you sit in your table whole day (may be night if overtime) in-front of your computer scratching your head feeling dizzy. This job is something that requires experience. Simply knowledge earned from book pays little here (doesn't mean it won't matter) . But you need thorough knowledge of all the topics and terms within. Construction, Geotechnical and structural are the common and most popular field of civil engineering. You can also go in the field of design using CAD and all. You may be using the various software and design the structures.
With initiation of township and all, the demand in Nepal for the professional from this field only seems to be growing in near future. So, don't hesitate to choose the field if you think you are passionate and interested. But since this field is too common and most of the people tend to choose civil engineering, don't go for it simply because you have to make a sensible choice regarding your career. Go for the field of your interest.
Hope you got some information regarding this field. If you are still unclear about what could be this field then here is the place where you can get more detail information on it. This is the link: What is civil engineering?
